TEACHING BACKGROUND & STYLE

After completing her undergraduate degree and while pursuing her Master’s degree, Maria started her first teaching job at a public middle school in Mesquite, Texas.  There, her orchestras achieved success year after year.  Five years later, Maria moved to Plano and led as the head director of a large orchestra program at another CCC middle school, where she became proficient at teaching violin and viola. She has taught as an orchestra teacher for more than 10 years. She has also taught private lessons as well.

Maria is passionate about teaching music to beginner students and her goal is for everyone to experience the joy of music. Music is a unique form of expression and communication which has the ability to connect people. Every student is unique, and so, lesson methods will vary according to each individual’s needs. Maria herself struggled musically, and therefore, she has picked up many different routes to tackling different techniques and concepts. She is empathetic and can relate to where her students are coming from.

She also enjoys sports and uses relatable analogies when relaying new ideas.  Learning an instrument is much more than learning  notes or songs, but about expressing ideas and emotions. Maria is dedicated to connecting with each student and genuinely cares about her students’ holistic progress.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT MARIA

She is a great music teacher, and I would recommend her to anyone! Maria was my son’s cello teacher for several years. She is patient, technical, organized, and thorough. She is also very patient and sweet.  She connects to her students very well and helps them grow.

Maria received her Master’s degree in Music Education from UNT and I taught all of her string music education courses (approximately half of the curriculum). Maria is a knowledgeable, creative teacher who is very well-organized. She has a great sense of humor and uses this as an effective tool in her classroom.

Elizabeth C., Ph.D.

Maria gets good results from her kids.  When she is teaching, she is direct and to the point.  However, she isn’t afraid to take a moment here and there to have fun and laugh with the students. She is organized, has strong pedagogical knowledge, and has a fun personality.
